It's Football Season!

All of the angels and saints are looking down at us, the poor sports fans of the world. The last two weeks have been as dead as it gets in the world of sports durig the year.

However, today, YES TODAY, the sports world begins to wake up from its slumber. Why? Because the first NFL training camp opens this evening. This year, the honor goes to my beloved Philadelphia Eagles.

The 2005 season was not kind to the birds. Terrell Owens reverted back to his "Leon" personality, which divided the locker room. Injuries on both sides of the ball hit the team hard. McNabb, Westbrook, Pinkston, Farley, Thomas were all lost to the season at some point, due to injury. Right there represented 54.5% of starters on offense.

Defense was not spared either. Lito Sheppard blew out an ankle halfway through the season. And special teams? Both the puter, Dirk Johnson, and the kicker David Akers missed a good portion of the season to injury. You know it is not your year, when both your punter and kicker get hurt.

But 2005 has ended, and now 2006 is about to begin. T.O. has taken his me-first show to the Dallas Cowboys. I do laugh at the folks who think T.O. will be good this year. Just wait, he will blow up the Cowboys like he blew up the Eagles. My over/under for that to occur is mid-October.

Nonetheless, the expectations are low for the Eagles this season. Many are already predicting the Eagles to finish last in the division. These predictions will only make this season much sweeter. I am not going to fully give my prediction for the Eagles, or NFC East, or the entire NFL for another month. But I will give you one small tibit of it today:

There will only be one team above .500 in the NFC East this season. This team will be located in Philadelphia.

Well, it's been football season in Pittsburgh since the early 90s so I guess Philadelphia having it since June isn't too bad.

So the Cowboys, Redskins, and Giants will go from winning records to losing records because of what?

The Eagles will be gaining back those two wins from everybody, of course.

Wow, I know McNabb lost close to 18 pnds coming into this season but unless Westbrook gained about 20 and becomes a 25 plus carry a game back I doubt that pass happy offense the Iggles used last year will carry them past 8-8 this season.

Ryan Moates and Bruce Perry. Eagles RB situation is not as grim as many claims it to be.

As long as the coaches actually run the ball.

They will. Look for a 58-42 pass-run offense this year.

They have nobody to throw to so they might as well run.

only one team above .500!? you've got to be kidding me. the wildcard is coming out of the east. the eagles will be better than last year, but i think they'll still need another year before they make the playoffs again. and i say that as a philly fan. look for the cowboys and the giants to be in, though.

You Philly guys kill me. You think the sun in the sports' sky rises and falls on that dung heep of a city. When was the last time a team from Philadelphia won a championship? 1980?

Major pros: 1983. Major NCAA: 1986. If we didn't care so much, it'd be a heck of a lot more boring here.

Ah yes, rely on the past glory of the '83 Sixers and '86 Villanova Wildcats. Too bad no one in Philly has won anything since before Reagan lost his marbles.

Hmmmmmm, major sports championships...Super Bowl XXXII, XXXIII, 96 & 2001 Stanley Cup. College championships...DU Hockey in 04 & 05. Denver Broncos have sold out every non-strike game since 1972, the Colorado Avalanche have sold out every game since coming here in 95, Colorado Rockies own MLB's all-time single season attendence record. And Colorado's National Title in 1991. So I guess Denver is a better sports town than Philadelphia.
