Is this a trend?

First Chelsea's manager Jose "The Special One" Mourinho resigns after a Champions League game in which all his team could do was manage a lackluster draw.  But now after losing his opening match in Group H Steaua Bucureşti manager Gheorghe Hagi has left his post with the Romanian team.  Hagi long considered the best ever Romanian born player had made the decision prior to the clash with Slavia Prague but decided to stay on with the team and leave after the match.

Now in the Mourihno case it seems the deciding factor was that even though the Blues had won two straight Premier League titles and finished second last season the owner Roman Abramovich was not pleased with the style of football being played.  In Hagi's case it seems that stress was the main factor in his decision to leave.  Steaua's owner had recently clashed with Hagi and had pubicly criticized his team selections, blamed him for poor results and threatened to fire him.  Hagi had had enough and even admitted that the pressure had him feeling like he was being tortured.

Taking over at Steaua in the interim will be Hagi's Italian assistant Massimo Pedrazzini.

And we think in America that we're hard on coaches. I can't imagine the pressure on some of these guys.

I remember Hagi from the 1994 World Cup he was a tremendous player for Romania, I was kind of hoping this coaching gig would have worked out better for him.

In the world of global football, it isn't even "What have you done for me lately," it's, "What have you done yesterday?" For the top teams in each country, the coaches must win everything, or they face being sacked. SAF and Wenger might be the two safest coaches in England, simply because they seem to have more pull than the management. Hell, look at what has happened at Real Madrid! Capello won the league and was still sacked. Mageth was sacked at Bayern after two consecutive years of winning the domestic double. Coaching the biggest clubs in the world is the hardest job in sports, harder than coaching Notre Dame football.
