Is Moss really an option for Packers?

by user The Beast

I've been hearing whispers and rumbles about the Green Bay Packers being interested in Oakland Raiders receiver Randy Moss. Supposedly, Brett Favre is the one pushing a move. For the most part I have dismissed it as mostly hearsay. After all, it's mainly been callers into sports talk radio who have brought the topic up. But now SI.com has even mentioned a move for Moss to Green Bay.

By now most people have heard that Moss has voiced his opinion that he wants out of Oakland and isn't even interested in talking to newly hired head coach Lane Kiffin. "Kiffin supposedly attempted to contact the 29-year-old Moss over the weekend, ready to talk with his most daunting challenge for the upcoming season.

"Sending the veteran receiver to Green Bay seems more likely, simply because of Favre's pressing desire to win. It is very unlikely, though, that the Packers are willing to send either their first round (No. 16 overall) or second round (No. 47 overall) draft choice to Oakland for Moss alone. A third-rounder appears more probable, though Al Davis may not agree with the low compensation."

I really hope they don't go after Moss. He is only a distraction. The Packers have built a young, hardworking football team. A guy like Moss will only become a cancer and become a headache for Favre and QB of the future, Aaron Rodgers

I'd trade a Round 2 Pick for Moss, happily. Who else is available in Free Agency? If there's another really good WR available, GB should get him via FA, and hence keep their pick.

Favre does not want to spend his last NFL season, having to deal with the insanity and attitude that is Randy Moss. For all the reasons he became frustrated in Oakland he would do the same thing in Green Bay

Why would they do this? They have tow more than capable recievers in Jennings and Driver. Moss would just be a distraction.

In the same way Parcels was able to keep TO from destroying the team, Favre should be able to keep Moss in tact. What they do is take him for 1 year, with say a 3 year team option. They bump Driver to 2, and Jennings to slot and tell them they are the future, Moss is just here for a short stay. If they could get Moss for a second, I don't know how anyone can refuse. Alex, I think Reggie Wayne's contract comes up at the end of the year, but there is no way he hits the open market.

Yes! Amen. Do it for a year only. Moss will be great for a year, helping Favre reach the Super Bowl.

Parcels is a coach with a larger than life aura around him. Being the head coach he has more power to control press conferences, and setting the mode and feelings around the lockerroom.

Favre is a legendary player who has more than left his mark on the NFL and especially the Packers. However as a 17 yr vet he does not have the time or the energy to play babysitter Moss, as well as bring along the young and struggling offense of the Packers.

Finally the Packers would be better off spending their hard earned cash on a talented RB, and suring up that position rather than bringing in another WR

Moss would respect Favre, he won't stay in oakland because Kippen is practically his age and has never coached in the NFL. Favre is a HOF player that everyone respects. They can draft a RB AND trade for Randy. It isn't and either/or.

What makes you think that Moss has this great respect for Favre, when he has not shown it to anyone else across his career?

Yout cannot make a tiger change its colors. They said the same thing, when Randy went to Oakland and that he would respect a black coach in Shell. They said the same thing when T.O. went to Dallas and he would respect Parcells. I hope whereever Moss goes, that he will have a good season and play to teh best of his abilites. However, to this point he has shown no evidence of being able to, or any willingness to change his ways, therefore I dont think he can.

He respected shell, but wasn't motivated by Shell. Now with Favre that will demand respect and be able to let Randy run free, Randy will revert to the Old randy before he became a total Arse. I'd give him a one year deal with 2 team extension options, 1 for 1 year, and another for 3. Parcels kept TO modrately in line. The training camp bit with the bike was over done, and TO was just trying to grab attention, not disrupt the team. The OD incident? That would have been a one day story had his publicist not been a total idiot. He had every right to be frusterated before they turned it around. He wasn't getting the ball, and the team wasn't winning. There was nothing for him to be happy about. Parcels kept TO in line. Parcels retired because he realized he no longer had the energy that he had back when he coached the REAL LT (not LaDanian Tomlinson).

This is ludricrous! First off, Moss needs to grow up and learn how to be a team player instead of out for his own glory. Second, he doesn't have the class to be part of the Packers. Also, I agree with one of the earlier comments; Favre has better things to do than babysit a spoiled brat.

ASK YOUR SELF THIS QUESTION. WHAT WOULD THE 2007 PACKERS LOOK LIKE WITH OUT FAVRE. VERY BORING. SURROND FAVRE WITH SOME FREE AGENT VETERANS LIKE MOSS AND LET HAVE A REAL DOG AND PONY SHOW UP IN GREENBAY. WIN OR LOSE IF THIS IS FARVE'S LAST SEASON, MAKE IT AS EXCITING AS POSSIBLE. WHILE YOUR AT IT GO AFTER T.O AND MAKE IT A SUPER DOG AND PONY SHOW. STOP CRYING ABOUT MOSS AND THINK ABOUT HOW IT WOULD BE TO HAVE THIS EXCITMENT IN GREENBAY. FARVE TO MOSS, FARVE TO T.O. IT WOULD BE A WEEKLY SHOT OUT.

This would be good for the Packers. Favre just wants to win and so does Moss. He's given up in Oakland and despite what Al Davis wants for Moss, he will not get it, and anything he gets will be better than having Moss not play hard. I would love to see the Packers draft Lynch at RB, add Moss to the team, and get a TE somehow. Defense looks great next year, a few offensive acquisitions would put the Pack in the playoffs.

Moss has the same agent as Farve. That Helps! Serious Considerations MOSS and FARVE!! With Driver and Jennings. Which are the best at running across the middle. Moss GO DEEP! Listen Packers are so young they have a ton of young guys. Witch means A TON of CAP ROOM. They better go after him. TO is Crap. Moss is not as bad as TO. Add Moss. Go after Turner and keep Green.(Get the Cal RB in the First) Add another shutdown Corner in FA. Grap Eric Johnston for the TE. Trade or dump Franks. Dumb manuel and get a Real Safety in FA or move up in the Draft. That will bring GB back to the Super Bowl. If you have the Money Spend it.

what happened in rougly ten years ago when the packers invested in a risky player in Andre Rison? No matter what has happened in the past Randy Moss needs to have a succesful year for job security. I am of the belief that however big Randy Moss's ego, he cares about one thing more than himself, winning. Its pathetic that he gave up on his team in Oakland, but put him in the situation to win, in addition to his need career wise to redeem himself, and I think you will have a successful situation for the Green Bay Packers in 2007. Also keep in mind Farve's approach to Koren Robinson and the rookie class this year, he didnt play babysitter and let them act as profesionals, He would do the same with Moss.

Moss, Robinson, Driver and Jennings. THAT's a line up! Get a decent RB to share time with Green. You could put Bob the brick-layer at TE; who cares. They'll be putting up 40 points a game anyway. Lets see what that defense looks like playing with a lead. Moss was never a universal force for evil like TO. He has an "herb induced" short attention span. He was a model player in Minnesota when he had someone to take double coverage off him (see Driver, Jennings, Robinson). He was torching teams for 180 yards/gm and three TDs. That kept his attention. When he lost a quality 2nd receiver and teams figured out Culpepper couldn't read defenses is when things went bad in Minne. Oakland just sucks.

O.J. would be a good addition if you wanted your wife knocked off. T.O. would be a nice addition if you wanted your wife knocked up. Moss would be a good addition if you wanted a dynamic football player to stretch the field and really help put up some numbers on the scoreboard, but you have to expect some attitude here and there. A good rental player that you trade when Brett retires. He should still have value in a year or two.

why would you not give favre a good season...brett favre has to force the ball to his only good reciever Donald Driver...this year greg jennings has shown a lot...and the o line seems to be shaping up...with moss it seem the offense of the Packers would be unstopable...i would trade 2nd round pick for moss...and use the first round to look for some db... and maybe use the 3rd for a te...i think packers cant give up suck a great moment such as this...As for the fans i am a die heart packers fan if Moss is good i dont care about his rep but i will still watch his temper...Randy is a selface child who only cares about the money...But the Staff of GB should let Favre (a great quarterback) go out with a win...a championship
