Howard Hartzog (Howard Gallamore Hartzog, Sr.) was born on April 11, 1901 in Terrell, Texas. After going to high school at San Marcos (TX), Hartzog attended Baylor University. Hartzog made his professional debut in the AFLG in 1926 with the Rock Island Independents. He played in the AFLG for 1 year, playing for the Rock Island Independents the entire time. Hartzog also played in the NFL for 1 year, playing for the New York Giants the entire time.
