How Much Longer Will McNabb be Green…With Envy?

I always have liked taking strolls down memory lane, it gives one time to reflect…Remembering certain moments can draw some new conclusions and grant insights that may have been overlooked. Oddly enough, as I peck away at this keyboard, I’m having flashbacks to 10 days ago when I sat of my loveseat, (yes, I said loveseat) watching the Mel Kiper-NFL Telethon…Or as some peeps refer to it as the NFL Draft. A lot of crazy shit happened on that day, didn’t it? The longest first round in the history of the draft, which did anyone really care? It allowed ourselves more time to scratch ourselves on the loveseat, couch, or Lay-Z-Boy. The fall of Brady Quinn, which sorry to say resembled Ricky Martin’s career…Sorry Brady, or is it, sorry Ricky? Then as only the Philadelphia Eagles can do, they baffled everybody by selecting quarterback Kevin Kolb with their first pick in last month's NFL draft.
To say it was shocking would be an understatement, why they even floored Mel Kiper at his own Telethon…Something very difficult to do! Although strangely enough Donovan McNabb had the same reaction that most of us had. "It was shocking," McNabb said Tuesday in an interview on WIP-AM radio. Of course immediately everyone was trying to figure out what the selection of Kolb meant for the future of DM in Philadelphia including the man himself. "When you draft somebody at the position you're in, of course you have questions of 'What does that mean?'" McNabb said. Um Donovan, yeah, simply put, this decision means that the Eagles organization doesn’t see you around too much longer after you did your best impression of one Daunte Culpepper last season. "The most important thing for me is to make sure I'm healthy and 100 percent and get back out there competing and do the right thing on the field." Wow, not only did you shred your knee like number eight, but now your talking like him too.
Look, I know you didn’t shred the knee as bad as Pep did, although you’ve been quite prone to the injury monster of the past few seasons, finishing the regular season on the sidelines three of the past five years. And at 30-years old, well, you’re not a young whipper snapper anymore…The body doesn’t recover like it used to, believe me! I’m 29, and I have more snap, crackle, and pop in my body than Rice Crispies…And all I do is sit on my loveseat and scratch. "I don't think I'm close to the end of my career," McNabb said. "People say when you hit 30, it goes down hill. I think it gets better after that. It's unfortunate I've been hurt the last few years, but things happen." "Gets better," huh? I think wholeheartedly the "the injury monster" would disagree with this assessment, along with oh, lets say…SCIENCE! What, are you going to be the next Evander Holyfield, but sport two good ears? He was "cured" too. It’s time to face the music that after eight seasons, four NFC championship games, a Super Bowl cameo, and a couple "tossing up your pre-game meal" on national televisions that the Eagles are preparing for life after DM because injuries don’t win football games!
Incidentally, Kevin Kolb will do as much for the Eagles as Donovan has done the past few seasons standing on the sidelines in street apparel…Nothing! Kolb’s not the future by any stretch of the imagination. Simply thinking this flabbergastic of a thought is a stretch in its own right! It made perfect sense to cut ties with Jeff Garica then if the Eagles are looking to the future, although if Philly was so concerned about life after Donovan, which they clearly are, um, yeah, ever heard of David Carr and possibly Matt Schaub? Not savvy vets, but two fairly young quarterbacks with a good amount of fair game still left in them. Then again we’re talking about the Eagles here…A franchise that loves to operate like a frog ass! Always water tight! Or if that was never an option, here’s some more food for thought, ever heard of Brady Quinn? You could’ve gotten his services for way below market value…Something that should’ve been appealing to you guys. The Cleveland Browns did…All they did was reach out and touch someone. That someone, none other then Jerry Jones…But of course, the Cowboys & Eagles are rivals, right? They wouldn’t help each other out by making trades, would they? Hmmm, I could’ve sworn otherwise?
So you were in a quarterback market to begin with…Could’ve had the second best "rated" quarterback in the draft, decided otherwise. Instead, selecting Kolb with your first pick of the day…Make perfect sense, yeah about as much as these ridiculously high gas prices. I’m doubting KK was rated higher than Quinn on any draft board. "I think Kevin Kolb is going to do an excellent job for us," McNabb said. "I'm going to try and help him as much as I can. I'm sure he's going to do great. I look forward to working with him this weekend." Well Donovan, please enjoy, the time you will be spending with Double K, (no, not Dice-K…Would that shit please go away!) this weekend…Showing him the ropes. And oh, yeah, enjoy helping him in taking your job over in the coming years, or perhaps sooner, depending on the "injury monster"…That’s what this weekend is all about! For this first step in taking your job from you! Have fun at camp, Donovan…The incumbent has arrived! After all, this is what you asked for in the first place, right? Be careful what you wish for! Although under your tutorage try to leave out, or at least limit the whole yacking bit…It’s not too appetizing!
