Homer Smoot (Homer Vernon Smoot) was born on March 23, 1878 in Galestown, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on April 17, 1902 for the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1902, his rookie year, he hit .311 with 3 home runs and 48 RBI. Smoot played for the St. Louis Cardinals and Cincinnati Reds over the course of his 5 year career.

Most people believe that Homer Smoot's best season was 1905, when he hit for a .311 average and knocked in 58 runs.
