Monday has come again, so here's this week's looks at the
Highs and Lows in College and Pros
Golf - High - Tiger's Back
I've never been seen as a passenger on the Tiger Woods bandwagon, or the PGA bandwagon for that matter, but I recognize a great story when I see one. Tiger's been through a lot and the British Open was probably just what he needed.
NFL - Low - Bengals Fill (Suspect Lineup) Roster
Yet another Cincinnati Bengals player in trouble with the law. Matthias Askew resisted arrest Saturday evening and ended up getting hit with a Taser. Askew is the fourth Bengal to be in trouble with the law in the last six months. How long before Vegas starts taking odds on who's next? (I've got 50 bucks on an ironic liquor store holdup by Sam Adams.)
Retired NBA Player - Low - Should we be suprised?
Speaking of athletes in trouble, Shawn Kemp was arrested for drug possesion on Friday following a traffic stop for driving without a license plate. The cop pulled Kemp over and said he noticed the smell of burning marijuana coming from Kemp's vehicle. This actually can be considered progress for Kemp, in April of 2005 when he was arrested he had pot and cocaine. At least he only had one this time.
New NFL Players - Low - New Orleans Hold'out Poker
The New Orleans Saints and Reggie Bush are apparently unable to agree on a contract and Bush is threatening to sit out the season and reenter the draft. I almost put this as a High because I like being right about players, but if any city doesn't deserve this kind of treatment right now it's New Orleans. Luckily they have another young, first-rate back who I'm sure is ready to shut some people up in (edit) Deuce McAllister.
MLB Faithful - High - Soriano Steps Up (maybe)
It may just be for show, but Alfonso Soriano has said he wants to stay the Washington Nationals primary player. The catch is though, he needs to agree on a new contract before the trading deadline, if he doesn't, he'll be traded. Maybe Soriano is just saying this stuff to be nice, but I'd like to believe he's a bigger player than he showed in the preseason when he refused to play outfield.
