Hey LT, Quit Your Whining!!!

by user BU ICEMAN

Much has been made about San Diego Chargers running back LaDanian Tomlinson's post-game romp and stomp with the celebrating New England Patriots after yesterday's AFC Divisional Playoff game. According to reports, Tomlinson was furious at several Patriots players for celebrating at midfield, pointing at the scoreboard, and mocking Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman's sack dance. Quoth Tomlinson: "I would never react in that way. I was very upset. When you go to the middle of our field and start doing the dance Shawne Merriman is known for, that is disrespectful. They showed no class and maybe that comes from the head coach."

Now, do I condone the behavior of the Patriots? No, certainly they could've handled it better, but their actions were not as bad as LT would like to have everbody think. The game was close and came down to a potential game-tying FG, emotions on both sides were high. No matter what, somebody was going to be celebrating, and somebody was going to be slinking off the field. But, for LT to react the way he did and make the comments he did reeks of "sour grapes." LT is known for his lack of celebration post-TD, but must realize that not everybody is going to act like he does or act how he thinks they should act. The other problem is that he seems to imply that it's acceptable for Shawne Merriman to act out, but not others. As far as celebrating on the logo, everybody meets at midfield after the game, it's natural for the celebration to occur there. This isn't a T.O. run to the star in Dallas and draw blatant attention to celebrating on the logo. Also, pointing at the scoreboard is hardly obnoxious, as far as celebrating goes, it's quite tame. I realize that LT was keyed up, disappointed, and angry after the loss, but he's got an opportunity to realize his mistake and clarify his actions and his comments.

It's the old adage: "Don't dish it out, if you can't take it." Perhaps LT would be much better suited in the NBA which has put extreme restrictions on signs of emotion.

As a side note, the final sentence of the quote regarding New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick is interesting. Certainly there's some bad blood between LT and Belichick for him to make that comment, I'd be curious to see some specific instances that have led to this feud.

I totally agree with the "Slob" label. I don't understand how the NFL is so strict on coaches wearing logo apparel on the sidelines that they won't let Mike Nolan wear a suit, but they let Belichick destroy the clothes. The next time I'm in Massachusetts, I halfway expect to see Belichick and the rest of the coaching staff huddled around a flaming barrel underneath an overpass....

Manny: Sorry, but I expect teams to act with class which is something most teams in sports rarely do anymore. One thing I like about being a Minnesota sports fan is that most Minnesota sports teams are humble, classy, and etc. I will take that anyday over a team winning. Twins are a model franchise because they win and they do it with class. Patriots can learn a thing or two.

How do the pats not have class? That is kind of how the work. They make players play for the win and the game and not the money. Leslie, only the Twins and Maybe the Wild(I don't follow hockey that much) are class teams in MN. The Vikings have had a lot of incidents(see Randy), including the Troy Williamson incident I reported a few weeks ago. The Wolves don't deserve to be mentioned in a discussion of class unless it only involves KG. Belichik may not be the nicest person that ever coached, but I don't know if I could find a better coach to lead a team since Lombardi.

Xinoph: I have a great idea of what I am talking about. I have witness NY/Boston sports rivalries for years growing up. Bostonians have an inferiority complex towards NY/NJ that it's beyond sad. Boston sports fans can be real smug and arrogant anytime their team wins.

Red Sox fans provide "Woe is Me" every freaking time the Yankees always outclass them. Red Sox fans whine about how the Yankees buy players when their team does something. That's an insult to Twins fans who have to watch their team win with homegrown players and then see their players leave once their contract is up. If you think Twins fans or other small-market team fans expect to have sympathy on your team's problems, you and the Red Sox nation are out of your mind. Red Sox are an unlikable team who does too much talking. I have more respect with what the Yankees do and I hate the Yankees.

Celtics fans are jackasses who fights with basketball players. Their behavior towards Jason Kidd in which they chant wifebeater was a very embarassing period for the city. They always like to start stuff with the Nets. Go ask the Lakers in the eighties about how nice Boston sports fans are.

How come African-American athletes are never welcomed at Boston? Huh?

Patriots fans are by far the most smug fans I ever encountered of any sportsbases that I have known. They have made Cowboys fans look humble back then.

Bruins fans always throw stuff at the Devils everytime the Devils go to Boston.

I think the facts speak for itself.

They were jumping and going crazy and running in front of cameras like they won a championship game. It was pathetic and disgraceful. LT, one of the classiest men in sports, has every right to say those comments because he truly was disrespectful.

I have judged Belichick's behavior this season. He has shown terrible sportsmanship before. Do you guys remember Eric Mangini and him greeting each other during the regular season? If you recall, Belichick greeted Mangini and ran away one second later. He was a poor sport. When he won, he gave the man a hug, but when he lost he barely talked to him.

This post is pathetic and this should not even be placed in the "good stuff".

No, having lived in Boston for about four years now, I'd agree. Boston fans are very smug and have this "woe is me" attitude until they win, then they are nothing but scum and tell you how great they are and how they knew it the whole time. This doesn't go for all fans, but the general feeling I get is this (I live with a Boston fan). They relatively knowledgable fans, but seal themselves in and the inferiority complex isn't really just a boston thing, its a northeastern regional thing (Boston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, and so on).

I've always had a rule about New York fans, expecially yankees fans. Yankees fans in yankee stadium and nice gracious and very typical of fans throughout the US in their home stadiums. Yankees fans away from the house that ruth built are scum and assholes and let you know what 8 gazzillion dollars will buy in baseball...most of them aren't even new yorkers...

Red Sox fans away from Boston are pretty much entirely band wagon jumpers...

Of course I cannot tell you what I would do if my team won the championship...I've never seen it...

You never pass or run the offense when the game is over. You run it out or spike it. Another thing. Belichick ran up the score on the Vikings on Monday Night Football. Vikings were finished in the fourth quarter yet the Pats kept throwing out there. How about when Belichick told Mangini not to take the Jets job? Who is he to tell Eric what to do. Belichick has had a confrontation with Tom Jackson and Ron Borges. How about two years ago when he apparently yelled at Steelers trainers for checking out if the Patriots players are okay. Belichick makes Isiah Thomas look like a decent human being.

And I understand that he's frustrated, because performance this season (one of the greatest ever by a RB) did not result in a San Diego championship. But to take a shot at Belichick -- which seems to be quite the vogue thing to do, by the way -- when the only coach he should be infuriated with is Marty Schottenheimer? That's not very classy, either, and I'm really surprised with (and disappointed in) LT for his comments. Merriman's dance is inherently a form of disrespect to the opponent. And, making him even less sympathetic, he did 'roids. In my book, he's fair game. LT needs to direct his frustration at those who actually deserve it.

As dumb as they are, I will definitely rather be a fan of theirs than being a fan of Da Bears and the Patriots. Randy Moss was being funny with the Packers fans. Packers fans thought it was funny. Everyone thought it was funny. As for the Love Boat incident, those guys were not guilty, right. That's what I thought. Vikings have represented the state of Minnesota pretty well. Don't believe what you read in the Star-Tribune, who has had an axe to grind with the Vikings for years.

False Prophet: I am sick and tired of the whining from the Pats about how they get no respect. Belichick is simply a jackass. I will elaborate more in my column. I am just think they are a dirty team who just annoy me. When LT speaks out, I think it speaks volumes. I know the Jets don't think much of the Patriots either. They have been vocal against them. Herman Edwards has had a personal feud with Belichick. Bottom line. No team thinks much of the Patriots. As for Jets fans, they may be clueless but from reading these posts, I basically agree with them. Living in Jersey, I am very familiar with this rivalry and all.
