Herb Dieter (Herbert Erwin Dieter) was born on March 3, 1896 in Springfield, Ohio. After going to high school at Masten Park (Buffalo, NY), Dieter attended the University of Pennsylvania. Dieter made his professional debut in the NFL in 1922 with the Buffalo All-Americans. He played for the Buffalo All-Americans for his entire 1 year career.
