Born on April 29, 1974 in Catano, Puerto Rico, Hector Mercado (Hector Luis Mercado) played for the Cincinnati Reds and Philadelphia Phillies over the course of his 4 year career. Mercado broke into the bigs on April 4, 2000 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 4.08 ERA in 53 innings pitched in 2001, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Hector Mercado's best season was 2001, when he posted a 4.08 ERA and struck out 59 batters.
