Handful of Plays Do the Jets In Again

The Jets played much better today, especially the under fire quarterback, Chad Pennington. However, there were a few key points in today's game that resulted in their 38-31 demise, dropping them to a dismal 1-6 record.
The first one came for me in the second quarter, with the Jets ahead 10-3. Coming off the Mike Nugent field goal, Hank Poteat intercepts Carson Palmer deep in Bengal territory. This is where the Jets could have gone in for the kill, as they did early with the Coles TD. Instead, 2 runs and a pass leave them with a field goal and a 13-3 lead. A lead, but not a knockout punch, which is clearly what was needed there.
Fast forward to the third quarter, where a big mistake on defense extended a drive that in my mind, was the beginning of the end. The Jets had the Bengals at a 3rd and 11. They force an incompletion, but Darrelle Revis was called for a pass interference, which extended the drive and led to the Bengals closing the gap to 23-17. Following the score, the Jets go 3 and out, and Ben Graham's punt goes a mere 20 yards, setting up the Bengals in good field position.
Another interference call on Revis does the Jets in for the game. Again it happens on a 3rd down, extending the drive and leading to the go ahead TD. Then, a miscommunication between Pennington and Nick Mangold leads to a fumbled snap and a turnover and the final Kenny Watson TD, putting the Bengals up 31-23.
Chad threw an INT late to put the game out of reach, but he was hardly the problem today. He played quite well, going 20-31 for 272 yards, 3 TD and the late INT. The problem today was not going for the kill on offense early, bad penalties, and one miscommunication between the quarterback and center.
