Born on July 5, 1951 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, Rich Gossage (Richard Michael Gossage) played for the Chicago White Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco Giants, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners over the course of his 22 year career. Gossage broke into the bigs on April 16, 1972 with the Chicago White Sox, and put up a 4.28 ERA in 80 innings pitched in 1972, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Rich Gossage's best season was 1977, when he posted a 1.62 ERA, won 11 games, notched 26 saves and struck out 151 batters.
