Glavine Showing Bravery Through Vulnerability

By now almost all sports fans have read that New York Mets starting pitcher Tom Glavine's season is in question because of a mysterious ailment in the ring finger of his pitching hand.
Glavine is to undergo medical exams to find out what is causing the problem - which Glavine explains as coldness - the most likely suspect is a blood clot.
What hasn't been discussed is that Glavine should be commended for the fact that he was not too bull-headed to tell his trainer, manager, whomever it was that he was having this problem.
The Mets are in first place in the NL East. They have already lost Pedro Martinez to the DL and there have been some other questions popping up about the strength to the team.
A lot of players - or I should say, a lot of us men - would have shrugged off the weird feeling and kept on pitching, ignoring the problem until someone saw us grimmacing and beat it out of us.
Many have said if Glavine is lost for the season, so are the Mets. That's a lot of pressure on Glavine to hide his his injury and "take one for the team." However he did the right thing and put his health, his family and the rest of his career over being a manly man and told the people he needed to tell what was wrong.
Showing that vulnerability isn't a sign by weakness was a brave move for Glavine and one that should be remembered by Mets fans (and all MLB fans) should the Mets suffer in Glavine's absence.
