• The Minnesota Twins had some roster movement today as well, exercising their $6m option on closer Joe Nathan, while center fielder Torii Hunter filed for free agency. Carlos Silva is a free agent, Justin Morneau is arbitration-eligible, and Johan Santana will have trade rumors surrounding him all season.

• Oh, and some guy filed for free agency, leaving some team. You may have heard.

• We all knew it was coming, but Barry Bonds also officially filed for free agency today.

• Coreyisarealboy reported in The Brew Haus that relievers Francisco Cordero and Scott Linebrink filed for free agency, and that the Brewers declined their option on OF Geoff Jenkins, perhaps paving the way for more playing time for Tony Gwynn, Jr..

Silva has never walked more than 37 batters in a season which is a plus but also has a huge negative in that he has allowed 475 hits in the last two years in his last 382 innings.

I wish, but I don't think the front office is willing to trade the young prospects that it would take to get Johan. I prefer to think a little bit more realistically. I'd be happy if they picked up someone like Linebrink, actually.
