[edit] Biography

Born on December 3, 1960 in Tampa, Florida, Gene Nelson (Wayland Eugene Nelson) played for the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Chicago White Sox, Oakland Athletics, Texas Rangers and California Angels over the course of his 13 year career. Nelson broke into the bigs on May 4, 1981 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 4.62 ERA in 122.2 innings pitched in 1982, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Gene Nelson's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1988, when he posted a 3.06 ERA and struck out 67 batters. However, others believe that it was 1987, when he posted a 3.93 ERA and struck out 94 batters.
