Born on November 12, 1913 in Santa Barbara, California, Gene Lillard (Robert Eugene Lillard) played for the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals over the course of his 3 year career. Lillard broke into the bigs on May 8, 1936 with the Chicago Cubs, and put up a 6.55 ERA in 55 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.
