[edit] Biography

Gary Sheffield (Gary Antonian Sheffield) was born on November 18, 1968 in Tampa, Florida. He made his Major League debut on September 3, 1988 for the Milwaukee Brewers. In 1989, his rookie year, he hit .247 with 5 home runs and 32 RBI. Sheffield played for the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres, Florida Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves and New York Yankees over the course of his 19 year career.

Sheffield was among the stars named in the Mitchell Report on the use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs in baseball. Sheffield FedEx receipt to BALCO in February 2003 was cited by federal agents for their search warrant on Greg Anderson’s condominium. The report also cited physical evidence of steroid use by an unnamed person or people connected to the Tigers in 2004. Sheffield has admitted using a cream he got from Anderson but said in a 2004 interview with Sports Illustrated that he did not knowingly use steroids.

Most people believe that Gary Sheffield's best season was 2003, when he slugged 39 home runs, hit for a .330 average and knocked in 132 runs.
