Friday's Random Thoughts...gonna offend someone

20
Vote

by Afraidofedhochuli

It’s Friday…which means I am bored. Work is slow, and I am trying to come up with things to do. So I figured I would give a “list” of things I think…sort of like EterPay IngKay  (I don’t want to have to pay him.) And I swear…I’m on break.

1)      Preseason is tough subject to discuss

People are always so broken on this. You have people who think it is great and the people who think it sucks. I am a fence sitter. I think it is what you need to evaluate rookies and “bubble players”, but it can totally ruin seasons. See: Marcus Tubbs , A.J. Feeley , Green Bay Packers RBs.

2)      Preseason makes me more excited then it should

I am NOT saying I like to touch myself, I AM saying is that I really enjoy the idea that you won’t see some of these guys again. I love that it is young guys trying to get a paycheck.

3)      It is too early to call a winner in the AL West

The Mariners got swept by the LA Angels of Anaheim. Great. They have lost 6 in a row. Whoopie. Look, this team is resilient. I am not stepping on a limb to say they will win, but there are enough games that they could do something. Maybe. I hope.

4)      Steroids are bad

You don’t believe me? Try it out, and watch your man bits shrink. ‘Nuff said.

5)      College Football is becoming more bearable

I have never liked College Football. But now I hate USC and I am ROOTING for EVERY OTHER TEAM. Including the tiny ones in the boonies of Arkansas.

6)      Seattle sports team are better then you think…except the Sonics

a.      I’m tired of the hate. The Mariners are good. They have a good record and they keep coming back. They are pesky.

b.      The Seahawks have won the NFC west 3 years in a row. They are 2 years off of a trip to the Superbowl. They had a massive case of the “owies” last year and STILL were one play away from the NFC Championship

c.      WNBA is dumb, but Lauren Jackson is good and HOT.

7)      Rick Ankiel should be tested by a lab

He is a new performance enhancing drug

8)      Lou Holtz sounds retarded

9)      People who don’t wash their hands are GROSS.

10)  Boston Fans are close minded and have tunnel vision.

a.       They think that their team is perfect…until they suck then they say they were always bad

b.      Ex: J.D. Drew. They were so happy when he came, but when he wasn’t working out…

c.       Ex: Big 3 for the Boston Celtics. When this fails they will deny they were ever happy and say that the guys suck

d.      Ex: Randy Moss. When he is the same old Randy, they will be off the wagon and agree that he is a bad teammate.

11)  Movie trivia that claims to be good, is usually really bad

12)  When a firm from Oklahoma City buys your basketball team, they have NO desire to keep them in your city, no matter what they say

13)  ESPN is starting to get really boring

As much fun as Poker is, it is not a sport and I am TIRED of seeing it in 4 hour blocks on ESPN. I would rather watch Sean Salisbury shave Mark Schlereth ’s  back

14)  VH1 and MTV no longer know what a music video is

Reality TV killed the Video Star

That is all. Enjoy your weekend people. 6 days to kickoff!!!

Not a bad piece, damn you sound like a disgruntled Seattle sports fan, you guys love to hate on Boston lol. And you did offend me, don't associate the Angels with Los Angeles, they aren't even in the same County! ;) keep up the good reads

Stop generalizing. But yeah, you're right about Boston fans. I gotta tell you, all my friends and relatives are expecting the Celtics to go to the championship, less win the division. I don't think this is the case. Randy Moss may not be the best in his career right now, but we still got a great young receiver by the name of Donte Stallworth, and he's going to do good for the Pats, in my opinion. For me, it's not just about Moss coming back, the Pats can still dominate without him. Third, I admit, I liked JD Drew, but I DID believe that he was worth a LOT, a LOT more than they should have got him for. He is usually on the DL and isn't healthy for most of the season. Now that he is, he's doing pretty bad. That's 14.4 mil down (not completely but most of it is) down the drain. How's that from a Boston fan's point of view?

"great young receiver by the name of Donte Stallworth" - great?

"Pats can still dominate" - dominate?

These is the myopia he was referring to.

The problem with Boston fans is that they are all mass-hypnotized. EVERY person I have ever met from Boston thinks they know EVERYTHING about sports (and just about everything else) yet all they know is Red Sox players names from around 1999 or after. Half the bastards on Son of Sam Horn don't know who he was! And where were all you Patriots fans in the 90's?

Hey, Bostonites - Just because you live near Harvard, doesn't mean you're smart. You can even say the word "car" correctly!

I used to root for you to beat the Yankees and I can't even honestly do that anymore!

I hope the Yankees win the division (they'll get swept in the first round anyway) and the Mariners or Tigers take the wild card.

You deserve it, Boston. Goes around and comes back around again... Pats go 9-7 this year, the Bruins severely blow and the Celtics will be LUCKY to make the playoffs... and Bob Ryan is NOT a great journalist - all of his good work came when the Boston team LOST! What's that tell you? Go back to being sourpuss losers and SHUT UP already... the collective bunch of you is GETTING to be as annoying as your hero - Curt Schilling.

Also, Kevin Youkilis ISN'T that good and Jason Varitek is a below average catcher.

One more thing, Fenway sucks as a baseball stadium - it ALWAYS has, why would you think it suddenly became a great stadium? Mass Hypnotism and myopia...

Take a trip outside of New England sometime and get some fresh air.

Why all the hating, Manny? OK, I was wrong saying great when I was talking about Stallwoth; I meant pretty good. If the Yankees make the playoffs, they WILL advance to the ALCS in my opinion. And the Pats will NOT go 9-7. That is completely ridiculous. They will probably go 11-5, at least.

I agree with you. Kevin Youkilis is NOT that good, but he IS good defensively. Varitek is not below average. I don't care what you say. Who else in the AL is better at calling games for their pitchers. He isn't as good as Posada, Martinez, or Mauer, but he can get a big hit occasionally.

BTW, have you been to Fenway? I, as well as 99% of baseball fans, seem to think Fenway is great and classic.

This is NOT Manny Stiles Brand of Hating®... I'm just spewing the untold truths behind the Generally Assumed Truths.

9-7, 11-5, poetato, pahtato. EVERY team in the NFL is thisclose to 8-8 under the current rules.

How many other stadiums have you been to?

"Classic" is another word for - it's old, it was built hastily and it's too expensive to replace right now... I enjoy the allure of history as much as anyone, but there's a reason that other teams have replaced their stadiums (some, like Philly, Cincy and St Louis have done it several times) since Fenway first hosted a game...

I am 6'6" and 270 lbs, so no, I won't think highly of Fenway when I can't get into the seat that isn't faced towards the action or might be a partially blocked view(after I can take out a loan to get a ticket and/or perform a black magic seance to find parking) - I won't appreciate the bathrooms built for Irish midgets, nor will I enjoy the 80% of the badwagoning crowd that is only there to be "seen".

Hey, it's still better than Wrigley, right?

There's a BIG difference between "a great place to watch baseball" and a "great stadium". Williamsport, PA and Omaha, Ne are great places to watch baseball, ya dig?

MASS HYPNOTISM

I will puke right after typing this, but I'd rather go to Yankee stadium (which RIGHTFULLY) is being replaced by a stadium designed for THIS century...

neither one of those 2 stadiums (fenway or wrigley) are considered in the top 10 of "best places to watch a ballgame". The lists are varied and there are a lot of homer picks; but wrigley actually appears more often than fenway. go figure.

Rick Ankiel a performance enhancing drug? Come on now, the guy has 56 at bats in the bigs this season. He has fanned 19 of those. He hit just .267 in AAA with a .314 OBP. If he was the next Roy Hobbs, the Cards would have kept winning instead of reverting to form and sucking like they have most of the year.

at least no one is paying attention to Micah Owings (who has as many HR, more RBI in less at bats AND is still pitching with some effectiveness...)

Regarding #10, I'm only one Boston fan so maybe the consensus is different from my views.

a) I've never thought any team, from Boston or any other city, was perfect b) I was not a supporter of the Drew signing, although I didn't rail against it. I felt like we were paying a lot more money for Trot Nixon 2.0 c) I'm happy about the Celtics' moves this off-season, and I think it's the best shot they have at improving. Are they a contender? Meh, who knows, anything can happen

d) Moss will have a good first season with the Patriots, he usually does well when he has to prove something. I think the Patriots should trade him if this happens, get a 2nd round pick, and avoid the problems he will cause before they happen.

Let me start off by saying that I am shocked and very happy that this randomness that hit my brain set off such a discussion.

Thanks for the feedback.

But I also want to point out thatmy generalizations are based (like all) on my interactions with these people. I may sound disgrunteled...I am...I am a seattle sports fan :) but my discussion on Boston fans comes from those I deal with, work with, and have seen at games.

I know a guy who will be on and then OFF the bandwagon in a heart beat. And I consider hima TRUE Boston Fan.

So thanks for the feedback and I appreciate that no one started attacking me(waiting for Manny's reply)...it just goes to show that we are all one in the world of sports...wow...that was pathetic...

I have to disagree on the Boston remark. I didn't like the JD Drew signing. Too much money for an injury prone Outfielder without much upside. I am excited about the Celtics, because it will be fun to watch. But, realistically, no one in the east can beat the west, and it doesn't matter because we'd have to go through Detriot and Chicago (and other teams). If one of these guys was a great point guard, I might change my stance. For now, they are only contenders in their very weak division. And I support getting him because we gave up nothing for what could turn out to be a top of the line reciever. Until he shows me ANYTHING PRODUCTIVE, I still see him as the guy from Oakland who sucks.

There are educated Boston fans. But, you generalize the whole city. Every city has people who don't know shit. Most people don't know anything about sports. It's not just Boston, its everywhere.

Last year (in Philly) when Garcia was winning games for the Eagles, most the city was talking about dumping McNabb. One of the reasons was McNabb is old. I said you might wanna check that. Everyone forgot McNabb was off to a MVP type season, and they wanted to dump him. Fucking Retarded People. I hate how so many fans are uneducated on the simplest little things. disclaimer- I am talking about Uneducated Sports fans, not those who here who knew anything right about the subject.
