Born on July 25, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio, Fred Scherman (Frederick John Scherman) played for the Detroit Tigers, Houston Astros and Montreal Expos over the course of his 8 year career. Scherman broke into the bigs on April 26, 1969 with the Detroit Tigers, and put up a 3.23 ERA in 69.2 innings pitched in 1970, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Fred Scherman's best season was 1971, when he posted a 2.71 ERA, won 11 games and notched 20 saves.
