Frank Taveras (Franklin Crisostomo (Fabian) Taveras) was born on December 24, 1949 in Las Matas de Santa Cruz, Monte Cristi (Dominican Republic). He made his Major League debut on September 25, 1971 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. In 1974, his rookie year, he hit .246 with 0 home runs and 26 RBI. Taveras played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets and Montreal Expos over the course of his 10 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Frank Taveras's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1978, when he stole 46 bases and hit for a .278 average. However, others believe that it was 1977, when he stole 70 bases.
