Major League Baseball has two MVP titles given out each year to the "best" player in each the National League and American League... (duh)...
MVP stands for Most Valuable Player. Most valuable player to what? Well if it is to their team, then shouldn't every team have an MVP? Who was/is the most valuable player to their team during the 2007 MLB Season?
Baltimore Orioles- Brian Roberts scored the runs, but Nick Markakis drove him in... Nick led the team in AVG, HR, RBI, 2B, Hits, second in Runs, double digit steals, 13 outfield assists... MVP- Nick Markakis...
Boston Red Sox- Mike Lowell has had a great year, but Big Papi gets the nod.... He lead the team in average, HR, Runs, second in Hits and RBI, and come'on he's BIG PAPI... MVP- David Ortiz...
New York Yankees- Give Posada credit for a great year, but everyone knows what kind of year A-rod has had... MVP- Alex Rodriguez...
Tampa Bay Devil Rays- B.J. Upton would have made a run at this award, but I have to give the award to one guy; the only D-rays fan... He still remains loyal... Kidding, Carlos Pena has more than deserved the award for the Rays with his 46 HR, 121 RBI, 99 Runs, .282 AVG, .627 SLG, in only 490 at-bats... MVP- Carlos Pena...
Toronto Blue Jays- The Big Hurt had a nice year, but the hardware (that I made up in my head) goes to Alex Rios... first or second on the team in Hits, AVG, 2B, HR, RBI, SB... MVP- Alex Rios...
Chicago White Sox- Jim Thome led the team in average (it was only .275), HR, and RBI while climbing into the 500 HR club (congrats Jim)... MVP- Jim Thome...
Cleveland Indians- Grady Sizemore had a great year, but it was Victor Martinez who lead this team... During the off-season he went to his coach and said "I want to win a championship. Teach me to throw runners out." And his defensive improment is one of the major reasons this team has done really well this year... MVP- Victor Martinez...
Detroit Tigers- Curtis Granderson had a great year, but Mags was off the hook... .363 average, 54 2B, 216 Hits, 28 HR, 139 RBI... seriously, he showed that he was worth that big check he got a few years back... MVP- Magglio Ordonez...
Kansas City Royals- MVP? How about... anyone who could sit through one of their games? Sorry, I had to take that shot... Lets go with Mark Teahen... second on the team in hits, third in 2B, second in RBI, second in SB, first in average, good across the board... MVP- Mark Teahen...
Minnesota Twins- Come out from under that rock... The man who's hand spends most of the time catching balls from the other side of the fence had an amazing contract year... .287 average, 28 HR, 107 RBI, 18 SB, 172 Hits, plus stellar defense... that puts him in front of the reigning AL MVP... MVP- Torii Hunter...
Los Angeles Angels of wherever- Vlady carries the offense... second on the team in Hits, Runs, and average, first in HR and RBI (by a large margin)... MVP- Vladimir Guerrero...
Oakland Athletics- (How about this pick?) Mark Ellis for Oakland's MVP... tied for first in Runs, second in Hits, 2B, and Average, third in RBI and HR while committing only 5 errors... MVP- Mark Ellis...
Seattle Mariners- There are many viable candidates for one of this year's surprise teams... Ichiro is probably the best lead-off man in the MLB, and he makes this team go while hitting .351 with 111 Runs and 238 Hits, he is the catlyst that makes this team go... MVP -Ichiro Suzuki...
Texas Rangers- Only two guys had the minimum required at bats to qualify as batting league leaders (Michael Young and Ian Kinsler)... Young hit.315 with 94 RBI, 13 SB, 201 Hits, 37 2B; pretty good numbers for a "down year" from Young... MVP- Michael Young...
Atlanta Braves- Hey, Chipper stayed mostly healthy... and it showed; team leader in average (impressively at a .338 clip), HR, 2B, and Runs, second in RBI and Hits, and struck out only 75 times (513 at bats)... once again proving that when he is healthy, he is the best hitter on that team... MVP- Chipper Jones...
Florida Marlins- Miguel finishes second to the young shortstop Hanley Ramirez... Hanley had 125 Runs, 212 Hits, 48 2B, 29 HR, 81 RBI, 51 SB, .332 Average, and only 95 K's (639 at bats)... O, he was not an All-Star (still ticks me off why he didn't make it)... MVP- Hanley Ramirez...
New York Mets- "As goes Beltran, goes the Mets... but he was not the best player on this team... nor was it Reyes... it was David Wright... lead the team in Hits, 2B, and Average, second in Runs, HR, RBI, SB (34 stolen in 39 attempts)... MVP- David Wright...
Philadelphia Phillies- Phillies didn't start winning until Ryan Howard started hitting... hit .280 after the mid-season classic, ended with 47 HR and 136 RBI... but J-Roll did it all year long... 139 Runs, 212 Hits, 38 2B, 20 3B, 30 HR, 94 RBI (leadof man? wow), 41 SB, .296 Average, .400 OBP... amazing... MVP- Jimmy Rollins...
Washington Nationals- You'd think it would be All-Star Dmitri... nope... Ryan Zimmerman is the man... after starting off in a sophomore slump, he picked it up driving in 91 Runs while scoring 99, leading the team with 174 Hits, 43 2B, 24 HR (by far the most on the team)... MVP- Ryan Zimmerman...
Chicago Cubs- This one is tough... -Alfonso Soriano, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez... take your pick, but I am choosing the catalyst at the top of the line-up... MVP- Alfonso Soriano...
Cincinnati Reds- It has to be Brandon Phillips... 107 Runs, 187 Hits, 26 2B, 30 HR, 94 RBI, 32 SB, .288 Average, and he is a great defender who has a lot of range… (another All-Star snub)... MVP- Brandon Phillips...
Houston Astros- Lance Berkman or Carlos Lee? Berkman had 2 more Runs, 2 more HR... Lee had 19 more 2B, 17 more runs, while hitting .025 points higher... MVP- Carlos Lee...
Milwaukee Brewers- Rookie sensation Ryan Braun set the world on fire with how he played offensively this year... the team was also on fire before he got there... The Prince hit .288 with 50 HR and 119 RBI and helped carry this team before Braun... MVP- Prince Fielder...
Pittsburgh Pirates- Lets say Adam LaRoche... team leader in HR and RBI, second in Hits, third in Runs and Average... slow start, but he still ended up as the best player this year on this team... MVP- Adam LaRoche...
St. Louis Cardinals- Anyone ever hear of some guys Albert Pujols? I am not sure, but hitting .327 (only Cardinal to qualify), with 99 Runs, 185 Hits, 38 2B, 32 HR, 103 RBI... I guess he wins... MVP- Albert Pujols...
Arizona Diamondbacks- Anyone realize Byrnes had 40 steals this year? Kidding, he actually had 50! Second on the team with 21 HR but he had 15 more RBI than anyone else... And hitting at the .286 mark with 103 Runs, he was the leader on this team... MVP- Eric Byrnes...
Colorado Rockies- If you watched baseball this year, you had to have heard of Matt Holliday... I won't even waste time with the numbers... MVP- Matt Holliday...
Los Angeles Dodgers- Jeff Kent had a nice year, but Russell Martin did more for this team... he scored more runs and drove in more runs than Jeff while stealing 20 more bases on top of managing the pitching staff... MVP- Russell Martin...
San Diego Padres- Khalil Greene almost matched Adrian Gonzalez is just about every offensive category except average... they both played solid defense, but Adrian just did more... MVP- Adrian Gonzalez...
San Francisco Giants- As little as Bonds played, he was still strongly considered for this award because of how he changed the perception of the line-up... because he didn’t even amass 350 at-bats, the winner is Randy Winn... 42 2B, lead the team in Hits, second in Runs, only guy to hit .300, and a solid outfielder defensively... MVP- Randy Winn...
I know this ended up more about stats than the guy who carried their team... but that is what the voters do too, so don't judge me... Hopefully you enjoyed the list, and I know that everyone is going to disagree with something, but I don't care... this is my list not yours, so deal with it or write your own... Constructive criticism is welcomed... and please try to be objective when reading this...
