[edit] Biography

Born on January 7, 1976 in Montreal, Quebec (Canada), Eric Gagne (Eric Serge Gagne) played for the Los Angeles Dodgers for his entire 8 year career. Gagne broke into the bigs on September 7, 1999 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and put up a 5.15 ERA in 101.1 innings pitched in 2000, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Eric Gagne's best season was 2003, when he posted a 1.20 ERA, notched 55 saves and struck out 137 batters.

Gagne was also one of the players named in baseball's Mitchell Report. According to the report, Gagne was introduced to former Mets clubhouse attendant Kirk Radomski by teammate Paul Lo Duca sometime between 1999 and 2004. Radomski says that he only personally spoke to Gagne once, and that all his orders were placed via Lo Duca. Gagne received 2 packages from Radomski, each containing two kits of HGH. One of these packages was sent directly to Dodger Stadium, as federal authorities found an Express Mail receipt addressed to Gagne in Radomski's home. Radomski alleges that Lo Duca paid for one of Gagne's shipments by way of cashier's check for $3,200, and Gagne mailed cash for the other package.

Also according to the Mitchell Report, the Boston Red Sox, in particular GM Theo Epstein, had reservations about acquiring the relief pitcher in 2007. This was mainly due to the steroid rumors that had swirled around Gagne throughout his career. When he questioned one of his scouts, Mark Delpiano, the scout thought that, "steroids IS the issue" and that Gagne was an injury risk because he "lacks the poise and commitment to stay healthy."

Gagne declined to meet with investigators for the Mitchell Report.
