Elmer Volgenau (Elmer Porter Volgenau) was born on August 2, 1900 in New Haven, Connecticut. After going to high school at Masten Park (Buffalo, NY), Volgenau attended Colgate University. Volgenau made his professional debut in the NFL in 1924 with the Rochester Jeffersons. He played for the Rochester Jeffersons for his entire 1 year career.
