Elmer Layden (Elmer Francis Layden) was born on May 4, 1903 in Davenport, Iowa. After going to high school at Davenport (IA), Layden attended the University of Notre Dame. Layden made his professional debut in the AFLG in 1926 with the Rock Island Independents. He played for the Rock Island Independents for his entire 1 year career.
