Eddie Murray (Eddie Clarence Murray) was born on February 24, 1956 in Los Angeles, California. He made his Major League debut on April 7, 1977 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 1977, his rookie year, he hit .283 with 27 home runs and 88 RBI. Murray played for the Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Cleveland Indians and Anaheim Angels over the course of his 21 year career.

Most people believe that Eddie Murray's best season was 1985, when he slugged 31 home runs, hit for a .297 average and knocked in 124 runs.

  • In 1977, Murray won the American League Rookie of the Year Award as the first baseman/designated hitter for the Baltimore Orioles.
  • In the strike-shortened season of 1981, he led the American League in home runs (22), and RBI (78).
  • From 1982-1984, he won back-to-back-to-back Gold Gloves at first base.
  • In 1982 and 1983, Murray finished second in the voting for the American League MVP Award, losing to Robin Yount in 1982 and Cal Ripken in 1983.
  • In 1984, he led the the American League in on-base percentage (.410), walks (107), intentional walks (25), and games played (162).
  • Murray also led his league in intentional walks in 1982 (18), and 1990 (21).
  • Murray is MLB's all-time leader in sacrifice flies (128).
