Eddie Mathews (Edwin Lee Mathews) was born on October 13, 1931 in Texarkana, Texas. He made his Major League debut on April 15, 1952 for the Boston Braves. In 1952, his rookie year, he hit .242 with 25 home runs and 58 RBI. Mathews played for the Boston Braves, Milwaukee Braves, Atlanta Braves, Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 17 year career.

Most people believe that Eddie Mathews's best season was 1953, when he slugged 47 home runs, hit for a .302 average and knocked in 135 runs.
