[edit] Biography

Born on May 19, 1955 in Johnson City, Tennessee, Ed Whitson (Eddie Lee Whitson) played for the Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres and New York Yankees over the course of his 15 year career. Whitson broke into the bigs on September 4, 1977 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, and put up a 3.27 ERA in 74.1 innings pitched in 1978, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Ed Whitson's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1989, when he posted a 2.66 ERA, won 16 games and struck out 117 batters. However, others believe that it was 1990, when he posted a 2.60 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 127 batters.
