Ed Reed re-signed with the Ravens (7-year contract) on 7/7/06...Was picked with the 24th-overall selection in the 1st round of the 2002 NFL Draft...Reed was the 4th DB taken in the 1st round (behind Quentin Jammer - San Diego, Roy Williams - Dallas and Phillip Buchanon - Oakland) and the 2nd safety picked overall…Reed, along with Bryant McKinnie, Jeremy Shockey, Buchanon and Mike Rumph, tied an NFL record of 5 players selected in the 1st round from the same college (Miami)…In 1968, 5 players were selected in the 1st round out of the University of Southern California...Miami broke the record in 2004 with 6.

Three-time Pro Bowler and 2004 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year in his 1st 5 NFL seasons...A dynamic playmaker, with great instincts and great knowledge of the game...Named to his 3rd Pro Bowl as a starter, named AP 1st-team All-Pro and PFW/PFWA All-NFL in 2006...Started all 16 regular season games for the 3rd time in his career...Finished the season with 66 tackles, 16 PD, 1 FF, 1 FR and 5 INTs, which he returned for 70 yards...Also scored a TD after Samari Rolle handed off an INT and raced 25 yards to the end zone...Also started and posted 2 tackles, tied for the team lead with 3 PD and tied a franchise record with a postseason career-high 2 INTs, helping hold Peyton Manning to a 39.6 QB rating in the Divisional Playoff game vs. Ind. (1/13/07)...Reed started 10 games in 2005, missing 6 with a severe high ankle sprain...Despite missing 6 games, Reed still managed to record 40 tackles (36 solo), 12 PD and 1 INT, despite teams consistently throwing away from him in 2005...Reed established himself as the premier defensive playmaker in the NFL, starting all 16 games at safety in 2004 while earning 1st-team All-Pro by AP, C&PFWA, Football Digest and All-Conference and All-NFL by PFW honors in 2004...Finished the season leading the NFL with a franchise-record 9 INTs, which he returned for an NFL-record 358 yards, breaking a 43-year old record (Charlie McNeil - 349 in 1961)...Reed returned an INT an NFL-record 106 yards for a TD (vs. Cle.)...He posted 89 tackles (80 solo), led the team with 17 PD, 3 FF, 2 sacks and 2 FRs (1 of which he returned for a TD) in 2004...Baltimore is 15-4 when Reed records an INT, and that included a 7-1 mark in 2004...With his INT vs. Miami (1/2/05), Reed took over sole possession of 1st place on the Ravens’ all-time INT list with 21...Named to his 1st Pro Bowl in 2003...Also earned AP 2nd-team All-Pro, Sports Illustrated All-Pro, Pro Football Weekly All-AFC team, Football Digest 2nd-team All-Pro and The Sporting News All-Pro honors...Saw action in all 16 regular season games, starting 15, plus 1 postseason contest in 2003...Led the team with 19 PD and tied a then-franchise record with 7 INTs, 1 of which he returned for a TD...Also blocked 2 punts, both of which he returned for TDs, the 2nd and 3rd of his career (tied DB Tom Flynn for the most blocked punt returns for TDs in a career in NFL history since the merger in 1970)...Finished 5th on the team with 92 tackles (77 solo), 1 sack and 1 FF...Reed burst on the scene as a rookie, starting all 16 games in 2002...Named to the Pro Football Weekly All-Rookie team in 2002 after finishing 4th on the team with 86 tackles (69 solo)...Led the team with 5 INTs (returned for 167 yards) and had 13 PD, 1 sack, 1 FF and 1 FR...Also proved his versatility on special teams, posting 8 tackles and blocked the 1st punt in Ravens franchise history...Added a 2nd blocked punt, which he returned for a TD (1st in team history)...Was the 1st safety and 3rd DB selected in the 1st round in Ravens history (Duane Starks, 1998 and Chris McAlister, 1999).
