[edit] Biography
Early Doucet, born October 28, 1985, is a senior wide receiver at LSU. He is widely expected to be an early-entrant in the 2008 NFL Draft.
Out of high school Doucet was one of the best prep wide receivers in the nation and one of the best all-around athletes in Louisiana; he was rated among the nation's top-five prospects by every major recruiting publication. Doucet was a Parade Magazine first-team All-American and USA Today second-team All-American, and earned an invite into the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. While seen as a future wide receiver, Doucet primarily lined up at quarterback and running back. For his career, he totaled 7,104 all-purpose yards and 79 touchdowns, including 30 touchdowns as a senior.
As a true freshman in 2004, Doucet played all 12 games for LSU, with three starts, two of them in a standard formation. (His third start was as part of a four WR formation versus Troy.) He caught 18 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns, and finished the season as the Tigers' starting flanker. He earned Freshman All-SEC honors.
In 2005, Doucet caught 26 passes for 389 yards and five scores, one of which were in dramatic fashion. With just over a minute to go versus Arizona State, the Tigers faced 4th and 10 on the Sun Devil's 39, down 31-28. Doucet hooked up with JaMarcus Russell for the touchdown. The Tigers won the game -- the first game at LSU after Hurricane Katrina -- 35-31.
As a junior in 2006, Doucet was third on the Tigers' depth chart beneath Dwayne Bowe and Craig Davis -- both first round picks in the 2007 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, he ranked second on the team with 59 catches for 772 yards and eight touchdowns; and he added two rushing TDs. He had a huge game in the Sugar Bowl versus Notre Dame, hauling in eight catches for 115 yards; and scored a game-winning touchdown with 9 seconds to go against the University of Tennessee earlier in the season. Doucet was named to the second-team All-SEC -- as a kick returner.
Doucet started his senior season strong, compiling 15 catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns in wins over Mississippi State and Virginia Tech. However, he missed the next five games due to injury. Doucet returned, racking up an impressive 50 catches in eight games for the year, adding up to 474 yards and four touchdowns.
[edit] Scouting Report
Truly defines the term "All Around Athlete". As a senior at St. Martinville in Louisiana, he was a triple threat, playing QB, RB and WR. He threw for 700 yards, rushed for 850 and pulled down another 250 at WR. Doucet has great hands, runs precise routes, and has uncanny start and stop ability. He has a stocky frame, and is not afraid to go over the middle and absorb a hit. This makes him a possession receiver with big play capabilities.
