Born on April 9, 1905 in Sparks, Texas, Earl Caldwell (Earl Welton Caldwell) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Browns, Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 8 year career. Caldwell broke into the bigs on September 8, 1928 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 6.00 ERA in 189 innings pitched in 1936, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Earl Caldwell's best season was 1946, when he posted a 2.08 ERA and won 13 games.
