Earl Averill (Howard Earl Averill) was born on May 21, 1902 in Snohomish, Washington. He made his Major League debut on April 16, 1929 for the Cleveland Indians. In 1929, his rookie year, he hit .332 with 18 home runs and 96 RBI. Averill played for the Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Boston Braves over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Earl Averill's best season was 1931, when he slugged 32 home runs, hit for a .333 average and knocked in 143 runs.
