Duke University ended their 22 game losing streak by defeating Northwestern 20-14.
It wasn't easy. Duke managed to score 20 points in the first half, then held off Northwestern on a final drive to tie or win the game. After the first quarter ended in a 7-7 tie, Duke scored 13 unanswered points to take the lead into the half. They held Northwestern scoreless in the 3rd period as well. Northwestern managed another score in the 4th quarter, but couldn't muster enough scoring against Duke. The Duke defense gave up over 500 yards to the Wildcats but was able to stop them when it mattered.
Thaddeus Lewis threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns in leading the Blue Devils to their first win since September 17, 2005, when they defeated Virginia Military Institute (VMI).
