I think this should be put in the ESPY award for the biggest upset for Kobayashi...

What an epic performance by both men. Jawthritis or no, Kobayashi made Chestnut earn his title. And it was definitely great to see an American take home the famed Mustard Belt on Independence Day. This showdown was everything we thought it would be, and then some.

Now here is a thought - how many hotdogs can you guys eat (since we are rookies here - no time limit, just in one meal? Me - 6 as a kid. Pretty disgusted thinking back at that. Now just 2. What about you?

I could get into the mid 20's MAYBE push 30 - I looked in to this about 10 years ago when the record was 29 HDBs and I was still known as "Garbage Guts"...

Besides, pies are my realm of "expertise"... we'll see how it goes next Saturday.

One of these days I'm gonna try the "gallon of milk in an hour" feat, document it and post it as an article.

The gallon of milk gets easy, you just gotta "train" for it...we used to do it during practice (it was a football thing, but those guys brought it over)...and after drinking gallons of water all day, you just had to handle the heaviness of milk...but it got down...

The Sports Shaman is lactose replusant...

The challenge with the gallon of milk is holding it down for ten minutes once you're done. That your stomach holds milk longer than water due to the protein content. And your stomach isn't made to hold a gallon of anything - theoretically. So it shoots back out.

There is also debate over whether the stomach acids and the basic nature of milk forces a chemical reaction that expands the volume in your stomach.

I think it's all a bunch of crap because my stomach IS that big! And I'll explain the rest in an article when I get around to doing it. I LOVE milk! And I seriously drink about a gallon of it a day...

JuT - I love Chuck Norris references! I don't know why, but Chuck can do it all... We went over this before in our Chuck Norris vs Chuck Bednarik debate! I think solving that battle would cause the universe to implode...

Kobi had 63 -- he tried to stuff, like, three extra HDBs into his mouth as time expired, and had a little reversal of fortune, for which they deducted some dogs. I'm not sure how many Sonya ate, but I don't think she even broke 45. Patrick Bertoletti was 3rd, with 49 HDBs.

Why the automatic "-" for asking questions? Or do you guys prefer yesterday's profane laced mudslinging? Hell, look beyond the commenter's name when assessing the comment, thank-you very much. Ever think that there might be a possible causative link there?

All hot dogs are precooked, but still - cold would be really freakin nasty. 66 hot dogs is insane. I like that guy Bertoletti - there was a great story about him in the Reader (he's from Chicago) - he actually has lost A LOT of weight since entering the world of competitive eating. As far as the announcers go, there was no way they were being serious about this being the greatest this and that in history - it definitely was in jest.

I took the subway down to Coney Island, and watched the whole thing live. It's amazing how many people showed up to watch it. I do have to admit it was a lot of fun to watch. The announcer was kind of funny -- he introduced one of the guys as "the David Blaine of Bowel Movements". Another guy as "the 4th horseman of the Esophagus". They even retired a jersey and raised it up the rafters for some eater who retired.
