Born on December 7, 1935 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Don Cardwell (Donald Eugene Cardwell) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Mets and Atlanta Braves over the course of his 14 year career. Cardwell broke into the bigs on April 21, 1957 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 4.91 ERA in 128.1 innings pitched in 1957, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Don Cardwell's best season was 1961, when he posted a 3.82 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 156 batters.
