Don Avery (Donald Lee Avery) was born on February 10, 1921 in Los Angeles, California. After going to high school at John Marshall (Los Angeles, CA), Avery attended the University of Alabama and the University of Southern California. Avery made his professional debut in the NFL in 1946 with the Washington Redskins. He played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Washington Redskins the entire time. Avery also played in the AAFC for 1 year, playing for the Los Angeles Dons the entire time.

Most people believe that 1947 was Don Avery's best year.
