Born on October 26, 1877 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Doc Newton (Eustace James Newton) played for the Cincinnati Reds, Brooklyn Superbas and New York Highlanders over the course of his 8 year career. Newton broke into the bigs on April 27, 1900 with the Cincinnati Reds, and put up a 4.14 ERA in 234.2 innings pitched in 1900, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Doc Newton's best season was 1902, when he posted a 2.42 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 107 batters.
