[edit] Biography

Born on May 21, 1891 in Snake Creek, Virginia, Doc Ayers (Yancey Wyatt Ayers) played for the Washington Senators and Detroit Tigers over the course of his 9 year career. Ayers broke into the bigs on September 9, 1913 with the Washington Senators, and put up a 2.54 ERA in 265.1 innings pitched in 1914, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Doc Ayers's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1914, when he posted a 2.54 ERA, won 11 games and struck out 148 batters. However, others believe that it was 1915, when he posted a 2.21 ERA, won 14 games and struck out 96 batters.
