Born on November 4, 1943 in Santa Ana, California, Dick Selma (Richard Jay Selma) played for the New York Mets, San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and California Angels over the course of his 10 year career. Selma broke into the bigs on September 2, 1965 with the New York Mets, and put up a 4.24 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched in 1966, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Dick Selma's best season was 1970, when he posted a 2.75 ERA, notched 22 saves and struck out 153 batters.
