[edit] Biography
Delmon Young (Delmon Damarcus Young) was born on September 14, 1985 in Birmingham, Alabama. He made his Major League debut on August 29, 2006 for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Young played for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for his entire 2 year career. He will open the 2008 season with the Minnesota Twins.
In April 2006, while playing for the Durham Bulls (AAA), Young threw a bat at an umpire after striking out. The bat struck the umpire on the chest, but he was not hurt [1]. The following day, Young released a statement through his agent stating he had not intended to actually hit the umpire with the bat, but acknowledging that he should not have thrown the bat at all. Young was suspended for fifty games for this incident. The suspension ended on June 19, 2006 [2].
