The Pittsburgh Steelers lost to the Green Bay Packers Saturday night by a score of 13-9. There were some highs and some very obviously lows. We got to see the no-huddle offense that has made Ben so happy. However, it wasn't as successful as one would have wished.
Rookie running back Gary Russell put up a nice average of 6.2 yards per carry to be the leading Steelers rusher with 56 yards. I am really starting to think that neither Davenport nor Barlow can/will be a successful no. 2 back to Fast Willie.
Rookie punter Daniel Sepulveda has been awesome with an average 48 net yards per punt. But he is the lone bright spot on special teams. Wilson and Reid carried most of the return load and performed satisfactory. Additionally, Jeff Reed is starting to worry me. I know it's early, but I've never seen him struggle so much. Reed has always been solid, although never great. One was always sure that he would nail the kick when he had to. Recently his kicks have been as wild as his hair.
Statistically, these two teams performed almost identically. There was no domination as in the previous game. Roughly the same total yards, yards per attempt, time of possession, etc.
I think the ability to identify weaknesses was the best thing that came out of this game. It's clear we still have a lot of work to do, but it wasn't all bad.
