The New York Mets have a great idea -- great, that is, if you (like me) have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy.

It's called the Citi Field Fan Walk. I'll let Mets.com explain:

The Citi Field Fanwalk is where Mets fans can become a permanent part of Citi Field through the purchase of individual engraved bricks surrounding the main entry of Citi Field. Fans will be able to recognize their family, friends and favorite Mets moments through lasting tributes engraved directly onto the bricks of the plaza outside of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. A complimentary replica brick comes with each order and makes a great addition to your home or office.

That's right -- you can purchase a brick and engrave it with a message of your choice. The Mets have dutifully provided the picture in the upper right in case you want to know what a brick will look like -- the picture is of the $395 version, but for just over half that, you can get a regular, 4" x 6" brick, with white your message engraved, memorialized right there for all Mets fans to see.

We assume that the Mets will provide some sort of quality control, but hey, you never know. So, in case you wanted to take a shot at creating some long-lasting vandalism, here are some brick ideas, photoshopped dutifully by this guy. Feel free to add your brick captions in the comments -- or just go purchase one.

(hint: bring sidewalk chalk with you.)

Wrigley Field does the same shtick. Besides, wasn't Shea Stadium already defaced by the Great Collapse of 2007?

I bet that last one would get through the censors, by the way. It's SO tempting.

Won't the Mets also be defacing their new stadium for $120 million a year?

I love how sports teams will do anything to take money from their fans rather than spend some of their own. I am sure that you could buy $100 screws for the bullpen gate. In exchange you are entered in a draw with 1000 other people for the chance to sweep up the bullpen sludge at the end of the season. What a deal!!

Except for the net proceeds go to the Mets foundation which donates it to local charities. This is a good cause so make fun and clever alternatives but don't make it look like they are profiting off of this venture. They should be credited for this.

Also, it isn't "taking" money from the fans. Nobody forces anybody to buy a brick or a $7.50 beer.

The whole Shea Stadium neighborhood is a toilet, why do you think its called Flushing? Back in the old days, there'd be more homeless in the parking lot than fans in the stands. Actually, half the fans were homeless. Bum $10 off some guy getting off the subway, you could get a $2 bleacher seat and eat like Kobayashi all day long.

The area around Yankee stadium isn't exactly Bel Air, Kelsdad. Maybe the Yankees could get an adequate bag check (instead of a bowling alley) with the money they're saving on A-Rod.

Thanks for the geography lesson, AF, but I'm sure I've been there more than you have. And at 2am with no cell phone I'd much rather be in the Bronx than Queens.

Heh all you guys are retarded, is this what you do in the offseason? Pick on the Mets? I wonder what you losers will be up to after the Mets win a World Series? Protesting Baseball? Picking your nose? or just being the same dumb losers you are now with nothing better to do. Ohh and btw, every single brick is going to be checked before being put into the ground... You'd be better off spending that $$ on lotion & towels jerking off to the DVD of the 95 Braves and 2000 Yankees.
