- Gabby Hartnett died. Hartnett played in 20 major league seasons (19 with the Chicago Cubs from 1922-1941. He hit 236 home runs, had a .297/.370/.489 line, made the all-star team 5 times and was the NL MVP in 1935. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1955
