Born on September 1, 1964 in Memphis, Tennessee, David West (David Lee West) played for the New York Mets, Minnesota Twins, Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox over the course of his 10 year career. West broke into the bigs on September 24, 1988 with the New York Mets, and put up a 6.79 ERA in 63.2 innings pitched in 1989, his rookie year.

Most people believe that David West's best season was 1993, when he posted a 2.92 ERA and struck out 87 batters.
