Dave Eggler (David Daniel Eggler) was born on April 30, 1849 in Brooklyn, New York. He made his Major League debut on May 18, 1871 for the New York Mutuals. In 1871, his rookie year, he hit .320 with 0 home runs and 18 RBI. Eggler played for the New York Mutuals, Philadelphia White Stockings, Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Stockings, Buffalo Bisons and Baltimore Orioles over the course of his 11 year career.

Most people believe that Dave Eggler's best season was 1872, when he hit for a .334 average.
