Cupid Childs (Clarence Lemuel Childs) was born on August 8, 1867 in Calvert County, Maryland. He made his Major League debut on April 23, 1888 for the Philadelphia Phillies. In 1890, his rookie year, he hit .345 with 2 home runs and 89 RBI. Childs played for the Philadelphia Phillies, [[]], Cleveland Spiders, St. Louis Perfectos and Chicago Orphans over the course of his 13 year career.

Most people believe that Cupid Childs's best season was 1890, when he stole 56 bases, hit for a .345 average and knocked in 89 runs.
