Born on April 5, 1965 in St. Augustine, Florida, Cris Carpenter (Cris Howell Carpenter) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Texas Rangers, Florida Marlins and Milwaukee Brewers over the course of his 8 year career. Carpenter broke into the bigs on May 14, 1988 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.18 ERA in 68 innings pitched in 1989, his rookie year.

There is some disagreement on what was Cris Carpenter's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1991, when he posted a 4.23 ERA and won 10 games. However, others believe that it was 1992, when he posted a 2.97 ERA.
