Cookie Gilchrist (Carlton Chester Gilchrist) was born on May 25, 1935 in Brackenridge, Pennsylvania. After going to high school at Har-Brac (Brackenridge, PA), Gilchrist attended none. Gilchrist made his professional debut in the AFL in 1962 with the Buffalo Bills. He played for the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins over the course of his 6 year career.

Most people believe that 1962 was Cookie Gilchrist's best year, as he ran for 1096 yards, ran in 13 TDs and ran for an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
