[edit] Biography

Born on March 3, 1960 in Whittier, California, Chuck Cary (Charles Douglas Cary) played for the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox over the course of his 8 year career. Cary broke into the bigs on August 22, 1985 with the Detroit Tigers and posted a 3.43 era. In 1986, his second in the big leagues, he posted a 3.42 era.

After two years in Atlanta he signed with the New York Yankees and put up a 3.26 ERA in 99.1 innings pitched in 1989. Cary's best season was 1990, when he posted a 4.19 ERA and struck out 134 batters in 157 innings. Cary was famous for being unlucky, and unsupported throughout his career. In his 8 years in the big leagues, Chuck played for 5 last place teams. He even went 3-5 with a 3.59 era with the Tokyo Giants in 1992. The normally dominant Giants struggled all year, finishing 4th place in the Central League. One can only wonder what he would have done with a winning team with a lifetime 4.17 era with those weak teams.

The one year Cary played for a winner was 1993 with the White Sox, however he was banged up all year with bad knees, and a bad back. He retired after that season.

Chuck entered the business world working for Intrawest Corportation for 8 years. He left his Executive Directors role to become President/CEO for Sea Sotheby's International Realty in 2006.
