Winnipeg Blue Bombers
2006:
Roberts’ season could be summed up in one word – wow. Starting all 18 regular season games for the Blue Bombers, he led the CFL in rushing yardage (1,609 yards), carries (303) and combined yardage (2,020 yards). It was the second straight season Roberts led the CFL in rushing and the third time in his career. Roberts scored a team best 10 TDs. Roberts topped the 100-yard rushing mark eight times in ’06, including two games with 150 yards or more, a remarkable accomplishment considering the number of changes the Bombers O-line went through during the season due to injuries.
2005:
Roberts solidified his reputation as one of the CFL’s most exciting players by posting one of the best individual seasons ever recorded by a Bomber player. He rushed for a career-best and a CFL-best 1,624 yards in 18 games, which was nearly 200 yards better than Calgary’s Joffrey Reynolds, who finished second in the CFL rushing derby. It was the second time in his career that Roberts lead the league in rushing yardage in a season.
2004:
Roberts appeared in all 18 regular-season games for the Blue Bombers. He rushed for 1,522 yards on 300 carries for an average of 5.1 yards and eight rushing touchdowns. He had six games with 100 yards plus rushing. He also had 398 receiving yards on 53 receptions for five touchdowns and was the Club’s Most Outstanding Player for 2004. Roberts also had three punt returns for 28 yards along with four kickoff returns for 84 yards.
2003:
Roberts played in all 18 regular-season games for Winnipeg, plus the 2003 West Division Semifinal. He was a CFL All-Star, a CFLPA All-Star and Winnipeg’s Most Outstanding Player Award winner. Roberts lead the CFL in rushing yards (1,554). Roberts became the first Blue Bomber to win the title since Michael Richardson did so in 1993 with 925 yards.
2002:
Roberts played in 17 regular-season games and two playoff games in 2002. He led the CFL in combined yards with 2,914 yards – 237 yards ahead of his nearest competitor. He had 216 rushes for 1,162 yards (5.4-yard average) and five touchdowns. He added 55 receptions for 613 yards (11.1 average) and six more touchdown. On special teams, Roberts had five missed field goal returns, was fourth in rushing attempts (216) and kickoff returns (27), sixth in touchdowns scored (11), non-kicker scoring (66 points), punt returns (44), punt return yards (476) and missed field goal return yards (124), seventh in kickoff return yards (539) and eighth in missed field goal return average (24.8).
2001:
In his debut CFL season, Roberts was both a CFL All-Star and an East Division All-Star as a special teams player. He also earned a spot on the CFLPA All-Star Team for his special teams prowess. The CFLPA also bestowed a major honor to Roberts. He received the John Agro Award as the league’s top special teams player in recognition of his return capabilities. Appearing in 17 of Winnipeg’s 18 regular-season games, Roberts added numerous accomplishments in 2001 to those honors listed above. He led the CFL in punt returns (82), punt return yards (782) and punt return touchdowns (two). He was second in the CFL in combined yards (2706), kickoff returns (45) and kickoff return yards (981).
College:
National Collegiate Athletics Association
Sacramento State Hornets
The leading rusher in NCAA Division I history originally became a Winnipeg Blue Bomber when he inked a pact with the CFL club May 22, 2001. Roberts is a U.S. college football legend. During his time with the Hornets, Roberts set or tied nine NCAA I-AA records, 13 Big Sky Conference records and 27 Sacramento State records. Roberts accomplished so much during his college career that it is embarrassing to try and describe it all. Among the highlights is the NCAA single-game rushing record of 409 yards versus Idaho State, Nov. 6, 1999. That performance won Roberts several honors and represents the first and only time a college running back has exceeded 400 yards rushing in a game since the NCAA began recording statistics in 1937.
