Butch Byrd (George Edward Byrd) was born on September 20, 1941 in Watervliet, New York. After going to high school at LaSalle Institute (Troy, NY), Byrd attended Boston University. Byrd made his professional debut in the AFL in 1964 with the Buffalo Bills. He played in the AFL for 6 years, playing for the Buffalo Bills the entire time. Byrd also played in the NFL for 2 years, playing for the Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills over the course of his 2 year NFL career.
Most people believe that 1966 was Butch Byrd's best year, as he picked off 6 passes, ran back an interception for a touchdown and ran back a punt for a touchdown.
